The level 2 Certificate in Learning Disabilities (RQF) course is designed for people looking to begin a career working with people with learning disabilities. It is also suitable for those who already work within this sector of care. The course covers topics and subjects that can be applied to many fields of work, including a range of community settings, domiciliary care, schools, day provision, care or nursing homes, hospitals, hospices, or other settings in which people are being cared for.

The aim of the course is to provide students with an insight into supporting people with learning disabilities and the autistic spectrum.  Along with understanding the key principles of safeguarding, positive risk taking and personalisation of care.

The course is studied over 6 units:

  • Unit 1: Understand the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
  • Unit 2: Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Unit 3: Introduction to personalisation in social care
  • Unit 4: Principles of positive risk-taking for individuals with disabilities
  • Unit 5: Introductory awareness of autistic spectrum conditions
  • Unit 6: Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare

To complete the course, students are expected to successfully complete all end of unit assessments. Full tutor support and help is provided to students through a personal tutor.
