The course provides students with a solid foundation understanding of Dementia, the effects and tolls it takes on patients who are adjusting to having the disease and also the impact on relatives.

As you study the course, you will be expected to apply your theory knowledge in practice. This can be done through a voluntary role within a care home. This practical experience will allow for you to fully understand the requirements and best practices of caring for people with Dementia.

The Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Care will focus on seven modules of study as follows:

  • Unit 1: Dementia awareness
  • Unit 2: The person centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • Unit 3: Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with an individual who has dementia
  • Unit 4: Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care
  • Unit 5: Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person centred approach
  • Unit 6: Understand behaviour in the context of dementia
  • Unit 7: Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care

The course will be assessed by submission of completed assessments to your course tutor.
